…….Pledges More People-Centered Projects

By Yusuf Ali

Yobe State Governor, Hon. Mai Mala Buni, CON, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to delivering more democratic dividends, with a focus on youth empowerment, healthcare, education, infrastructure, and agriculture, as he enters the final two years of his tenure.

Speaking at an interactive session marking his six-year scorecard, organized by the Office of the Special Adviser on Television, Radio, and Digital Media, Governor Buni highlighted key achievements and outlined future plans to sustain development in the state.

Governor Buni emphasized his administration’s dedication to creating opportunities for young people, stating: “We are determined to deepen youth empowerment and economic inclusion.”*

Through various skills acquisition programs thousands of youths and women have been equipped with self-reliant skills. Additionally, many young professionals have been employed in the civil service to replace retired workers, while others have been appointed into political roles such as Special Assistants, Senior Special Assistants, and board members.

The governor noted significant strides in healthcare delivery, including the establishment of functional Primary Healthcare Centres (PHCs) in all 178 political wards across the state.

“Three General Hospitals in Damaturu, Potiskum, and Gashua have been upgraded to Specialist Hospitals, while several PHCs have been expanded into full-fledged General Hospitals,” he said.

To address manpower shortages, the state has employed graduates from the School of Nursing and Midwifery, School of Health Technology, and medical returnees from India.

Governor Buni highlighted the construction and rehabilitation of roads linking rural and urban communities, enhancing the movement of agricultural produce and boosting commerce. Drainage systems in major towns have also been upgraded to mitigate flooding.

In education, the administration has constructed and renovated classrooms, provided learning materials, and awarded scholarships to Yobe indigenes studying locally and internationally.

To stimulate commerce, modern markets have been built in Potiskum, Damaturu, Gashua, Nguru, Buni Yadi, and Geidam.

The governor also outlined interventions in agriculture, including the distribution of tractors, fertilizers, improved seedlings, and irrigation equipment to farmers, women, and persons with disabilities—ensuring increased productivity and food security.

As Governor Buni enters the final phase of his tenure, he assured citizens of sustained efforts to consolidate on these gains and deliver more impactful projects.
