Gov. Buni Sponsors Over 576 Law Graduates to Nigerian Law School Since 2019
By Hussaini Ibrahim Sulaiman
Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, has sponsored more than 576 law graduates to the Nigerian Law School since 2019, in a bold initiative aimed at advancing education and building a strong legal foundation for the state.
The program, executed through the Yobe State Scholarship Board, reflects Governor Buni’s sustained commitment to human capital development and professional empowerment. Each beneficiary receives full tuition coverage and a brand-new laptop, significantly easing their financial burden and enabling them to focus on their studies.
According to the Executive Secretary of the Yobe State Scholarship Board, Dr. Kagu Abubakar, the initiative has cost the state government over N500 million to date. He commended the governor for what he described as a visionary investment in legal education, saying it was “laying the groundwork for a future anchored in justice and legal excellence.”
Beneficiaries of the scholarship expressed deep appreciation for the life-changing support. Many said the financial relief has allowed them to pursue their dreams without the distractions of financial hardship, ultimately improving their performance at the Law School.
“This intervention has lifted a huge weight off our shoulders,” one beneficiary stated. “We can now concentrate on becoming competent legal practitioners who will give back to our communities.”
The initiative aligns with Governor Buni’s broader education-focused agenda, which includes scholarships, financial aid, and infrastructural investment across various academic sectors. His administration has consistently emphasized education as a pillar for sustainable development in Yobe State.
Observers have lauded the program as a model worth replicating by other states, noting its potential to transform not only the lives of individual students but also the legal and governance landscape in the long term.
The scheme, now in its fifth year, continues to attract commendations for its inclusive and impactful approach to educational empowerment, reinforcing Buni’s profile as a governor deeply invested in the future of Yobe’s youth.
