In a bid to ensure children protection rights especially in health and education provisions, the Ministry of Women Affairs and social development, the Adamawa state Primary health care development Agency ADSPCDA and Adamawa state polytechnic have signed tripartite and dual memorandums of understanding (MOU) in the state.

Monitoring the signing at the conference hall of the Ministry of Women Affairs and social development Yola Friday,UNICEF child protection expert, Ladi Alabi in her remarks said that the coming together by the three organizations will provide the needed success.

Alabi stressed that the first tripartite bond will allow the three organizations to map out the social workers and auxiliary social workers to serve as shields for child protection in their various communities.

She pointed out that the MOU would be a workable template if everyone play his role deligently noting that auxiliary social workers are people highly respected but have no formal training to do the job but can make things happen in the society

“The govt needs to recognize their efforts identify them and recommend them to UNICEF for appropriate training. When they are trained they go back into the community. Obviously providing training is the role the tertiary institution play here that is why we didn’t go to any tertiary institution we have to identify one that is already doing this social welfare training hence the choice of Adamawa State polytechnic,” she said.

In their separate responses officials of the three departments who signed the documents including the Executive chairman, Adamawa state Primary health care development Agency ADSPCDA, Dr Suleiman Saidu Bashir, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Women Affairs and social development and Registrar of the Adamawa state Polytechnic Yola expressed profound appreciation to the Unicef for its role in the pack.

They pledged to play their parts as expected of them with a view to achieving the target of the Memorandums of understanding.

Chief of field office, Unicef Bauchi,Dr.Nuzhat Rafique assured the parties of its organization’s commitment in bankrolling the training to improve protection of child rights in Adamawa.

“All these basic rights of the children in the areas of nutrition, health, educational, sanitation and others alongside protection from violence, abuse and any mishandling and exposing children to injury is critical,” she said.
