ICRC commissions health care delivery facilities in Adamawa communities

With a view to ensure provision of sound health care delivery services to the rural dwellers especially those affected by armed conflicts in their communities, the International Committee of the Red Cross, ICRC has renovated, upgraded, and equipped some health facilities in Mubi South local government area in Adamawa state.
Doris El-Doueily.Head of Delegation,ICRC Nigeria disclosed the development during the official launching of the health facilities in Muda community and Federal Medical center Mubi held on Thursday stressing that the renovated and upgraded facilities would serve not local population but also many families displaced by conflict seeking care in overwhelming hardship.
El-Doueily while inaugurating the reformed Primary health care center Muda community the ICRC after thorough investigation decided to give the hospital a lifeline due to the significant pressure in search of health care services by not only the people from the area but many from other different locations.
“Today, Muda PHCC stands transformed with a new labour room, injection room, Pharmacy and waiting area along with a solar-powered borehole, improved waste management systems and renovated staff quarters .
“This is now a space equipped to meet the needs of over 16,000 people.We maybe inaugurating a building today,but we are really passing on a renewed commitment to health, dignity and humanity”.She declared.
Another project codenamed ‘Tom Brown’ where women especially nursing mothers are being trained how to cook nutritional valued food supplements using local food items including soya beans ,Millet,Maize, Ground nut,Moringa for the healthy growth of our children was also commissioned by the ICRC official in Muda community.
The ICRC Nutritionist, Matter Mandy Agbo explained that due to the economic and social hardship being experiencing in these communities then cases of malnutrition were recorded which informed the establishment of the Tom Brown Centre for experts like herself are meeting and teaching the rural women which they found easy and encouraging with the availability of the needed ingredients for the food solution.
In an interview with Peoples Daily Weekend trainees like Munirah Sani and Rashida Sajoh Wuro-bayya expressed gratitude to ICRC for setting up a unique way of addressing their night mere (malnutrition) saying they have learned a lot and stepping it down to the larger members of the societies which made a significant turn around on the health challenge.
“Honestly we remain grateful to the ICRC for putting up this edifice in our community where we learn a lot about health care and hygiene”. They stated.
Similarly the stabilization centre building where cases of severe acute malnutrition cases of children from age zero to 59 months are treated at the Federal Medical center Mubi was also commissioned by the ICRC and government officials.
In his remarks, professor Yau’ba Mohammed Sa’ad , Chairman of the Medical Advisory Committee of the hospital commended the ICRC for the intervention explaining that the infrastructure and the equipments will assist greatly in making their work easy.
Sa’ad pledged that the management of the hospital will guard the facility jealously in the interest of the general public.
Answering questions from journalists after all the commissioning of the projects by ICRC, Executive chairman of Adamawa state Primary health care development Agency, ADSPCDA. Dr Suleiman Saidu Bashir said that the ICRC has been supportive to the state government in areas concerning humanity which the government don’t take it lightly.
Dr.Bashir added that the Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri’s led administration is working assiduously to addressing challenges facing its citizens therefore applauded the contributions of development partners like the ICRC promising to ensure all the facilities are use judiciously for the benefit of humanity.
