NAOWA takes medical outreach to Shuwari community, donates items to orphanage home in Borno

The Nigerian Army Officers Wives Association (NAOWA), has carried out a medical outreach to the people of Shuwari community of Baga road and donated food items to the Fatima Orphans and Widows Education Centre, as part of activities to mark Nigerian Army Day Celebration (NADCEL) 2024.
While speaking at the Medical outreach which held at Shuwari community, Baga Road,, Maiduguri on Wednesday, the Chairperson, 7 Division NAOWA Hajiya Aishat Abubakar Haruna said ” in this economic hardship two things are important, food and health, the medical outreach is to give you the opportunity to check your medical status, because without health you can not go to farm, school or business”.
Mrs Haruna said ” this medical outreach will also promote Civil Military relations, people always think Nigerian Army is about war or battle field, but we are your friends, brothers, sisters and children”.
“We are also sensitizing you on personal hygiene, you know, now it is rainy session and there are cases of Malaria and cholera. We have to take our personal hygiene seriously by always washing our hands, clean our environment and sleep under mosquito nets”,she added.
In his welcome address, the Commander 7 Division Hospital, Col NL Musa Said the medical outreach consist of dental, eye care, blood pressure, sugar, Malaria among other diseases.
“We are also going to carry out sensitization on personal hygiene such as hand washing, cleaning your environment and sleeping under mosquito nets among other “, Musa added.
Speaking, one of the beneficiaries, Modu Bulama thanked the NAOWA and Nigerian Army for the medical outreach.
He said ” you can see I just had an eye check up and I was given eye glasses free and many of our community members have also benefited from Malaria, blood pressure and sugar check among others.”
Also at the the Fatima Orphans and Widows Education Centre, the wife of the Acting General Officer Commanding, (GOC), 7 Division, Mrs Aishat Haruna told the orphans that she was there to see them and assist them.
“I am here to see you my children,, I know among you we have Governors, Senators, Doctors and Engineers. I am happy to be in your midst to celebrate with you.”, Mrs Haruna in a laden voice and tears.
Receiving the items the propriatres of the centre, Hajiya Fatima Babagana thanked the NAOWA chairperson and the Nigerian Army for coming to their aids, stressing that the items will go a long way in supporting the Orphans.
She said there are over 300 orphans in the schools and that they also set aside a special day for the widows to learn various skills , such as soap making, tailoring, computer graphics, knitting among others.
NAOWA equally visited Joint Investigation Centre (JIC) Giwa Barracks and Maternity Ward of 7 Division Medical Services and Hospital (DMSH) Maimalari Cantonment, both in Maiduguri.
