TaRL Africa, Oando Foundation partners Adamawa SUBEB to improve learning techniques

The TaRL Africa (Teaching at the right level)Organization in conjunction with Oando Foundation and the Adamawa state Universal Basic Education Board, ADSUBEB have organized a one baseline assessment lower level capacity building training for head teachers, supervisors and Education secretaries in Adamawa state.
Addressing participants from three pilot local government areas including ; Girei, Demsa and Yola North local councils, the Program and partnership Associate,TaRL Africa, Joel Jutum said that,the initiative was floated in an effort to improve the low level learning challenge bedeviling basic school pupils in the state.
Jutum explained that, the 2024/2025 baseline assessment overview conducted by the partners through data collation from the teachers, supervisors and Education secretaries have revealed disturbing picture exposing low learning capacity of the pupils in most of the public schools.
Jutum lamented that, the situation need new and urgent approaches to tackle the ugly trend noting that, in some schools, pupils can’t identify one digit number or a letter sound word which to him is a great negative result for the system.
He stated that, the survey by the head teachers and supervisors provide a template for testing new minimum variable product and the quantity of materials being used in teaching appealing to the participants to ensure full implementation of what they learned from the training.
While recalling that Unicef had done similar project in 2021 covering 8 local government areas where tremendous result was recorded but regretted that when Unicef left then the project was left in the limbo without adequate sustainability.
Jutum assured that the new initiative would be giving faster results than the older methods being adopted urging the education secretaries and supervisors to ensure proper monitoring of the program in their various communities so as to achieving desired outcome.
In his remarks, the education secretary of Yola North, Aliyu Bakari expressed gratitude to the organizers of the training maintaining that the new innovative strive will go a long way in boosting learning trajectory in the state.
Bakari while calling on all hands to be on deck for the full implementation of the program pledged that all necessary support and corporation would be given to the plan so that desired goals can be attained.
Hajiya Zainab Saleh, An official of the state Universal Basic Education Board, ADSUBEB applauded the development partners for the intervention explaining that the new strategies are result oriented.
“The advent of TaRL Africa and its partners is apt and timely considering the precarious situation of the education sector which really need experts intervention like this one”.Saleh stressed.
