Yobe: N22 Billion Damaturu Flyover Project Set To Boost Local Economy
By Yusuf Ali
The Damaturu Flyover and Underpass project, valued at N22 billion, is set to transform Yobe State’s economic landscape—with a significant portion of the budget dedicated to local content sourcing, empowering suppliers, contractors, and workers across the state.
This strategic investment underscores Governor Mai Mala Buni’s commitment to stimulating grassroots economic growth while delivering critical infrastructure across the state.
A key benefit of the project is job creation, with direct employment opportunities for both skilled and unskilled laborers. Beyond construction jobs, the project will drive massive demand for locally sourced materials—including sand, gravel, cement, and fuel for heavy duty machines—ensuring that a substantial share of the N22 billion budget circulates within Yobe’s economy.
Highlighting this local economic boost, Alhaji Goni Bade, Chairman of Fune Local Government, confirmed ongoing discussions with Triacta (the construction firm) to supply sand from Fune. This move alone will increase revenue for the local council while supporting small businesses and transporters.
Governor Buni’s emphasis on local content ensures that Yobe’s economy benefits at every stage—from material procurement to labor hiring. By prioritizing homegrown suppliers and contractors, the administration is fostering self-reliance, wealth redistribution, and long-term economic resilience.
More than just an infrastructure upgrade, the Damaturu Flyover and Underpass project is a deliberate economic stimulus, designed to empower communities, create sustainable livelihoods, and lay the foundation for a more prosperous Yobe State.
As the construction of the first of its kind flyover begins, its impact will extend far beyond roads—transforming trade, mobility, and local enterprise for generations.
